About the Festival

Aren't people just hairy beings in motion? Meret Oppenheim became an object for discussion with her fur-covered cup in 1913. In a similarly sensual and tender way, PELZVERKEHR provokes reaction with performing arts from the Alps-Adriatic region.

PELZVERKEHR is a festival for dance and performance in Klagenfurt/Celovec, for local people and for guests. The festival is recognized as one of the main contemporary dance events in Carinthia/ Koroška. Having emerged from a series of guest performances by the Klagenfurt City Council, since 2016 the culture initiative “Tanzamt Klagenfurt” has been organizing the festival in cooperation with “klagenfurter ensemble” in theaterHALLE11 and increasingly in other places in the city too.

Once a year around the beginning of autumn the festival presents a program lasting several days with the current socially relevant trends in dance and performance. The program ranges from the aesthetically familiar to risk and experimentation.

Appropriately for its geographical location, PELZVERKEHR specializes in art works from the Alps-Adriatic region. It primarily invites productions for adults - however, there are always events for young audiences. In addition to (inter-)national guests, the festival offers a platform for local artists and artists who have a connection with Carinthia.

PELZVERKEHR takes an inter-disciplinary approach and cooperates regularly with non-dancers, from the areas of literature, visual arts, music and film. Art education in the form of introductions, artistic talks, workshops and community dance puts paid to reservations concerning contemporary dance and performance.

The festival is committed to social pricing. In addition to numerous free offers there are a lot of discounts, including for members of the „IG Freie Theaterarbeit” and of the „IG Tanz Performance Theater Kärnten/Koroška”.

Become a part of PELZVERKEHR. We look forward to seeing you!
